Having Timing Belt/Water Pump replaced, what else should be done?

-Hey all. I bought a 2000 xterra as a 'back-up' vehicle this week, got it cheap and naturally it needs a lot of work. The good news is the only thing that appears 'urgent' is the timing belt/water pump since i don't have a record of when that was last done.

After reading on here a bit, it seems there might be a few other minor/preventative repairs that my shop can do while they have that tore up. Looking for suggestions on a couple other things they can do while they are replacing those that won't add much to the bill. Example: friend of mine said valve cover gaskets might be worth looking at along with a couple hoses and the other drive belts.

Any thoughts appreciated, since it isn't a daily driver i don't necessarily need to rebuild the thing, just keep it starting and moving around 50 miles a week tops.

-Update and a bit of a PSA:

New to xterra ownership and i am not a DIY person usually, so i relied on a couple shops to look over the Xterra and let me know what it needed.

Mistake.

After getting the timing belt, water pump, and new belts on the rest of the drives, i decided this week to start my DIY adventure and flush/fill coolant and power steering fluids.

And that's when i saw the timing belt sticker on the underside of the hood, belt replaced about 30k miles ago.

D'oh.

Check the hood, kids. And don't trust your local mechanic, even if you've been bringing your vehicles to them for 20+ years.

$745 i didn't need to spend...grrrrr.

BUT - did they put a new sticker on there for you, or just leave the old one there?

How do you know they changed the t-belt?

-I have my payment and a receipt from the shop detailing that they installed timing belt, water pump, same price as what i paid them. Next time i pop the hood i'll see if i can get at any markings on the belt to tell.

I don't think they worked on many nissans before since they left the old sticker on there. That's the only reason i knew it had been done before.

Good news, my radiator flush and power steering flush went fine. I still need new hoses coming off the power steering fluid housing, but need time to run it to autozone and parking lot it so i have the right size hose.
