02 Xterra - Stalling, Trouble Starting, Highway Accel Issues

Hey all, a few issues with my 02 Xterra that may or may not be linked.

First, the first time I try to start it (either in the morning or after several hours of non-use) it starts without issue, but then if I park and come back to it, it will often sputter a couple times as I turn the key before it starts. It seems to get worse the more frequently it's used or started, and sometimes I'll have to either turn the key a few times or just hold the key in the starting position as it attempts to start.

Second, when driving on the highway, it's fine initially - I can get up to 70 or even higher mph without issue. If I'm driving for a while at high speed and then decelerate to below 60 mph, the car has a noticeably hard time getting back above 60. The car will start shuddering and try to top out at 55-60. If I keep the pedal down as it goes through this process, it will generally "push through" after a little bit, speed up above 60, and at least mostly stop shuddering.

Finally, this just started happening today (and is the most concerning): it has stalled twice when coming to a stop after being driven on the highway for a few minutes. Once at a red light and once as I was turning into a parking deck - the engine just stopped and I had to turn the car completely off. When I tried to start it again, it went through the same starting issue described above but did start.

Thoughts?

Sounds like cats could be plugged, fuel pressure regulator has issues, starter is getting hot from exhaust nearby (heat shield missing?).

What engine and trans, 2WD or 4WD, how many miles, etc.?
