Hi all,

I have a 2006 Xterra w/ 79K miles. I got a CEL the other day, and used my Cortex to read the code, which came up P0430, which is "Catalyst Efficiency below Threshold Bank 2". I poked around the forums and on Google, and I didn't really see a consensus on the likely cause, other than it's likely a bad O2 sensor or a bad catalyst.

I logged some data briefly, which is below. The values aren't super indicative of anything, I was just idling in the driveway and hitting the accelerator a few times, and the CEL isn't currently on (I cleared it). My goal was just to see if the changing (or not) values indicate a bad sensor or not. I'll log more data when I actually get the CEL again (it comes on regularly, after driving 15 min or so on the freeway).

Time/B1 S1 Voltage/B1 S2 Voltage/B2 S1 Voltage/B2 S2 Voltage

12.260 0.300 0.280 0.600 0.280
13.090 0.275 0.290 0.450 0.280
13.920 0.125 0.280 1.275 0.280
14.750 0.035 0.280 1.275 0.280
15.580 0.830 0.280 1.275 0.280
16.410 0.550 0.280 0.410 0.280
17.240 0.195 0.290 0.410 0.280
18.070 0.240 0.280 0.530 0.280

From what I read (and who know how accurate this is, but...) the sensor 1 should jump around cuz it's pre-cat, and sensor 2 should remain steady (cuz it's after the cat). This seems to be the case, which indicates the catalysts are fine? Does that mean an O2 sensor is bad?

Also, would this be covered under the Nissan 80K mile emissions warranty? If so, I need to get my ass in there soon cuz I'll go over 80K soon.

Thanks in advance.

In case anyone was curious, it was a bad catalyst. It was replaced under warranty w/ 800 miles left on the emissions warranty. :)

They're also replacing the ECM but had to order the part, so back to the shop on Friday... but also under warranty. Hurray.

No CEL's in 4 days, so I guess they did actually fix it and not replace random parts. You never know...
