Hello there Xterra forum people.
Glad i found a community of owners. Well. Here is a nice little score i picked up. Took to mechanic to get it looked at, filters replaced, tune up, radiator, AC. All is well.

I used to own a stock red 2004 xterra. It was so good to me and we had many adventures.
this yellow submarine is even more clean then my last one.

Upon reading up on this forum i made a choice to go with 17x9 rims. Looking through Rims i picked KMC KM545 Satin black. Originally this was sitting on stock 16’s with 255/65 R16. Today i got the wheels delivered and headed down to a local tire shop and got BF Goodrich All-Terrain A/T KO2’s 265/70 R17 installed.

This is how she sitting at the moment. Note that i did have to remove both front and back mud flaps. I also trimmed some of the plastic front bumper, no biggie as tomorrow i get the new front put in along with a 9,500 winch and LEDs. I also had to cut some of the wheel well protective plastic backing right behind the tire. There is still a bit of rubbing behind the tire, but its hitting the bottom of the fenders. It only rubs on sharp turns. That is nothing a lift wont take care of, however im finding it difficult finding one since most everything that pops up is for gen 2 (2005- 20xx). Any leads or recommendations welcomed.

totally happy with the tire choice.
More updates to come.
Next will be upgraded steering, 2” lift, back bumper extra tire holder, back ladder, different roof rack, fender flares.
Will also be going with white for the body color. Good bye to the big banana on wheels.

The Dobinsons kit is unfortunately not applicable to the first Gen xterra.

The Calmini kit is though.
You should also look at 4x4parts.com, they have quite a few options..

If you don't know when the timing belt was replaced last, i would highly suggest you do it before you put to much money into modifications. Otherwise it's looking great! keep us posted!

Thanks, I will ask if the timing belt was looked at last i took it to to get worked on by my mech. looking into nerf bars/ running boards. Its been a little hard to see if things would fit but some are just obvious. really liked this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079P72MT...J/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWw it does not give item length but does package size, but who knows if theres hard foam padding adding to it. It says 59 x 15 x 8 and its the smallest ive found of that exact design. online i see that 05-current xterra the package size is 67. Cant seem to find any length info on the first gens. But here i found one that is 64.5 https://a.co/d/2ZMupfE i know some would say if you are going to be wheeling and rocking, nerf/running boards why bother. But they do add some protection. parts were just delivered, on my way to get the front bumper put on!

Came to the shop to speak with the gentlemen. He too suggested i went with the calmini as it had the back shocks as well. Not to mention its practically the only kit ive found versus getting parts separately. while the kit comes in, as well as the seat covers, ill see if get the chance to paint it.

Calmini has a reputation for taking a long time to deliver, it looks like a nice kit. If I were to got one I think it would be from 4x4 parts.com, more affordable depending on which one you get and it comes with the much needed idler arm brace, I haven't heard of any shipping complaints. But plenty of people are running the Calmini kit.

What type of bumper might you be getting?

hey guys, spoke with calmini sales rep and he stated they have stock right now and it will ship Tuesday, should have it the week after and most likely installed the weekend of the 25th. Roof Rack went with GOBI Ranger Rack which comes with the RTT bars (60”) and driver side back ladder. Sales rep calling tomorrow to confirm and gather payment details. Have the RTT picked out as well. Im pumped! the front, ill have to get back to you on that. question. Having gotten the calmini, should i get the idler arm brace? Is it just one? Thanks. Calmini has a bad reputation for delivery issues, taking months to deliver. Hopefully they have changed, let us know if yours shows up.
I went ahead an ordered the idler arm brace, along with the back tire bumper. Calmini just called to say they are shipping the brace along with the suspension kit i had ordered and that it will be sent out before next weekend since its all in stock. will update.

Turns out the listing for the running boards stated package size was 64.5” . Nowhere in any listing (amazon) for any running board do they list the size of the board, just the vehicle it was originally made for. Not only that but almost no one list the board length anywhere. The package was in fact 55” and there was still 4” of padding and free room giving us a bar that is 51”. I have not put the bar next to the other one to see fitment and look, but 66” to 51” im sure would look silly. The company said the only other size in this model that i liked was for bigger trucks sitting at 80” to 87”. Oh well. Looking at all options out there, i really liked this model. Search goes on. Just got a call from gobi racks, payment confirmed. Its now a waiting time for everything to arrive.

Anyone got any leads or know if they make a cover for where the front mud flaps used to go? Just some trim to fill in the fender side? Pictures ive seen online of xterras most just have it off and leave it off.

Also, these first gens dont have much real estate for fender flares. Any leads on those would be appreciated as my search had not really turned results, most are gen 2. Thanks for following the build. Pain scheduled for this week.

Thought you might be interested in these if you haven't bought and nerf bars yet. I plan on purchasing these when i get to them on my list.

Updates:

you guys were not kidding about Calmini.
Im the type to want to stay on the positive side of things, but people never cease to disappoint. Placed my order on a thursday, friday i received a call stating everything was in stock and would ship tuesday. When i called for update they stated that currently they were waiting on the idler arm to ship. Its been about a month. I have called back and the lady on the phone sounded mad at me for some reason. I was told parts would begin to ship. I received 1 leaf spring. Emailed them to ask if it was going to be shipped in parts, the email i got back literally said “yes” and nothing else. Another week or so went by and i called. Sounded like the lady on the phone had been woken up by my call. She said she would transfer me and not even half a second later same fellow ive spoken to stated he was waiting for the idler arm but they would short ship the kit and ship the arm when they got it. The lift kit is sort of stalling the process as the pain fellow said to take the car back once the lift was installed for him to finish it off right (due to the rubbing).

i have put the original tires in the front while the lift gets here as to not damage the tires. Its not a negative experience, just an inconvenient one. But the end result will be awesome so i dont mind as much.
The Gobi Rack and back ladder have arrived. The lights have arrived. The front has arrived. Everything is ready to go. Just waiting on the lift kit. Next up is a sneak peak of the new coat.

Calmini has been a nightmare to deal with. If anyone buys from them, brace yourself for no email replies. people on the phone acting like they mad you called. No updates, i had to even ask for the order details/confirmation. Lets just say they have not been helpful in any attempts to let me know any timeframes. When they do ship a few parts, I had to ask for tracking cause they dont send it to you. But here is all thats arrived so far.

this along with 1 leaf spring is what i currently have. Ive emailed about an ETA or any info and have yet to receive a reply. So much for “everything is in stock and will ship right out”

still missing pieces:

we will see when they respond or parts show up. For now i will install the roof rack and lights. Put the interior back in. Waiting on you lift!

Progress:
Roof rack from Gobi Racks installed, about to do the back ladder.
ARB front Bumper with open country winch.
Front fog lights installed.
Roof rack lights installed but not wired as we are waiting for the controller to add those plus the rock lights, led bar and back work lights.
Replaced the turn signal lights, Got Halo headlamps installed as well. Grill is cracked and the new one is being painted and will be installed soon

fellas at the shop gave it a poor mans lift for now to see if the tires clear and will test them out today. while calmini sorts themselves out. Been calling for the past two weeks. They always make a note. Last i was told they were going to go look in their warehouse? We wait…

went down to the local stereo shop and took some tweeters i found in japan by pioneer. I also upgraded the stereo to a pioneer. Went to the shop to get them installed plus to swap out existing speakers also to pioneer and to add subs.

Went with 100w satellite speakers
Two 650w 6.5 door speakers
Two 650w 6.9 door speakers
Two 1,500w subs
1200w amp
2,400w amp

The lady tried selling me other brands, but i told her all pioneer. “No one has ever came to get an all pioneer system”. She had never seen and really liked these satellite speakers, and she took down the model as im sure shes going to start trying to offer them in her shop.
when i went to pick it up she stated she was impressed. “it sounded really powerful and clear, muy bonito” she said.

Keep getting complements on the seat covers by border patrol every time i cross the border. Few things left to do. Back spare tire bumper, ring light.

Driver back cargo space window broke (hauling dj gear around) but has arrived and will be replaced soon. I have seen some metal grill panels they instal inside the windows usually to hang gear. I haven't found any for this model, but would like to get some to protect the windows and or possibly mount the subs as they are in flat boxes.

im happy with the build so far. Mechanically it is A OK. Have fixed everything that needed to be, no codes pop up. Gotta also get the roof liner replaced. :)
