So, I was looking Gen 1 Xterra values and it kind of boggles my mind. You can find them all day under $4500 online, and ones in good condition . I‘m really surprised they are so inexpensive for a bunch of reasons. I‘m guess it that is just 20 years old but when you look what you get for the $$ it is quite remarkable . Having a V6 with 4WD and a pretty reliable vehicle it just doesnt make sense. I just sold a 2011 Golf cart that was a POS for $3,500. New Golf Carts are upwards of 10k and you get basically nothing but a frame batteries and a plastic body. Minimal moving parts and electronics.
So, did they just make so many Gen1 Xterras that its a supply demand thing? It’s clearly not a true value thing. Secondly, the cost of new vehicles is extraordinary….what I mean’t was….insane. Plus the repair cost of newer cars is absurd, My brother just got a $4000 service bill on a BMW with 37,000 miles. $850 just for plugs. A new Tacoma is over 50k and when a turbo goes better take out a loan. I just don‘t understand it., I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe. You‘d think practical people would be gobbling up every gen1 X out there. You can still get parts, they‘re fixable in your garage at home, are capable and great looking. Maybe it‘s a function of our societal priorities. I’ve put about $1200 of new parts in my 2002 X and I feel like it will be good another 10 years. Its two car payments on a new car. The one annoying gremlin is the driver‘s door lock is intermittent even after replacing the lock actuator.
So what is going on in with this market?
