Hey, I was in a pull it yard today and found a good shape Xterra, it had the Rockford fosgate 6 CD changer in it, which my SE had before the previous owner changed it to a Pioneer head unit. In my truck the amp is still there and they had purchased the wiring harnesses instead of hacking up the harness. I grabbed the Rockford unit out of the wreckers and when installing, i get power, i have steering wheel controls, and the writing comes up on the screen displaying the information about the song, however, no volume, not even a buzz. How would I go about testing the rockford unit to see if it`s dead or if it`s salvagable? I saw something about the dealership having to program the head unit, but it didn"t have much information. If someone can help me out here it would be appreciated.

Have you checked to see if the wires that go to the speakers from the wire harness plug have be rewired?

hmmmm... there might be a short in either the factory amp or the deck. id try to find another harness that plugs into the radio that the wires are coded like you would find on a aftermarket radio and take it to a audio shop to bench test the amp output for you
