Weird shaking when sitting

I'm sure that this has been answered before, but just keep getting lost in all the posts/searches. I've got an '03 X with the 3.3(Non SC) Auto trans. When i'm sitting in Park/Neutral everything is pretty good. When I shift into any Drive Gear D/R/1/2, I get a very noticable vibration. It really only does it when I sit still, or maybe I just don't notice it as much while moving. Also, It seems a little lacking in the power department.

It's got a fresh-ish oil change(about 700mi ago),and I just replaced the distributor cap+rotor(Bosch), spark plugs(NGK Iridiums), and the plug wires(NGK). I did it all myself so I know that it all got changed right, i've heard stories about mechanics slackin' on the #6 plug.

Took it up to Advance to have the codes pulled, P3028(the knock sensor) is the only thing that came up. Could that be the only thing that I have going on? Any input would be great! Thanks!

I have the same problem, I only really notice when sitting in a fast food drive through, but when i pull up alittle it seems to ease off
well first do you have a rough idle when your noticing the shaking? im assuming not since it doesnt happen when your in park, so im gunna go with the next question, whens the last time you had your tranny serviced? how many miles on the truck
I don't really notice a rough idle, only the shaking. The RPMs never change while it shakes, just stays around 600ish. It's got about 101k miles. I just bought it about 2k miles ago from the original owner. All of the maintenance was done at the dealership(i've got the records). I don't see anything about the trans being serviced, but if it was supposed to be done at any of the regular service intervals, i would bet that it was. She had the 100k service done(h20 pump, thermostat, timing belt, cam+crank shaft seals, and new acces belts) right before i bought it.

Is there any way to test the ks without pulling the plenum off?
had this issue and replacing the spark plugs, cap n rotor did the trick. Not sure if it's the same, but the symptoms are similar
While you are feeling the vibration try turning your turn signal on.. Does the vibration change in sync with the signal? When you put the X in neutral and have your foot on the brake does the turn signal still make the vibration change? Does the vibration get worse with increased load of electrical devices?

Try cleaning your battery terminals and engine ground. Have your battery checked. If it is electrical as in cap and rotor, I would clean the battery terminals and grounds first. After all it is free.
The turn signal didnt effect anything. The battery was replaced by the dealership in Nov. '03. I didnt check it, butI cleaned up the teminals/grounds when i did the plugs etc......I tried the AC on full blast and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

If that's the last time you had the battery changed, you may want to at least have it tested. Not saying that's your issue, but over 7 years is a pretty decent time for a battery. I had a Battery Shop or whatever that was in my Accord for 10 years, but it got to the point where if I left my laptop plugged into my small power inverter the battery dropped enough I couldn't get the car to turn over and that's the LONGEST I've had a battery last. Most have been around 5 or 6.
Thanks for the input, i'll have the battery checked. But what about the knock sensor being bad? Wouldn't that cause something to change?(idle/lack of power/lower gas mileage,'bout 240-250 a tank)

Most people say it doesn't have an appreciable effect on anything in the NA models. One person did say that people who replace it notice a little better throttle response and fuel economy, but it's not drastic at all.

Mine's been throwing the knock sensor code for who knows how long and I get better mileage than just about everyone on here with a first gen. Also runs great.

What kind of mileage are you getting? Like I said, i'm only getting on average 250 a tank. not bumper to bumper traffic, but not highway either. It's better than my old Jeep XJ, but still seems like i should get more.

Well going between 50-60 mph I get over 20 mpg, probably 21 at its best. I haven't done a whole tank of this because the longest trip I've taken with the X is 4 hours. Anything above 60 or in town driving and the mileage plummets. I get around 16 around town, not bumper to bumper. When I was romping on it after I put on my CAI I was getting around 12.

Anyway, if I did a whole tank (let's say until the light comes on) at 60 mph I would get over 300 miles for sure.

For reference, the 4/4.5 hour trip I take is about 250 miles, a lot of it going 55-60 mph, with some faster, and some climbing hills going slower. At the end my fuel gauge needle sits about 1/8" higher than 1/4 tank.

I know it wasn't asked, but I have a fresh fuel filter, clean MAF sensor, fresh tuneup, CAI, synthetics in motor, diffs, tranny and transfer case, and 31" highway tires
Battery and alternator check out good. Oil is good, Trans fluid looks good. Oh yeah, and the air filter is pretty much brand new. Could be the fuel filter, though. I'm kinda stumped. I don't really want to just keep changing stuff 'just because'. Don't know when or if the fuel filter has been changed, so it may be a good idea to do that anyways.

Ok, this is the closest thread to my experience with my X. I have a 2000, and when I picked it up from the previous owner, I drove it 400 miles back to my home. A week later the MIL light comes on and eventually ended up leading to the knock sensor being replaced. I have noticed better power since the swap out. But still, in Drive while sitting at a light or drive-thru, I have learned to shift into neutral because the vibration is so great that one of the exhaust heat shields violently vibrates against the under carriage.

Was looking to see if you could follow up and provide details of how you remedied the problem.

I got the exact same problem as u and it was my driver side engine mount. I replaced both of them and the viibration is gone since then.
about the knock sensor code, try to clean the green connector and the ground first before you gonna do the knock sensor mod or replace the knock sensor. it has been 4 months and the p0328 code never come back.
Sorry for the lack of follow up. I changed the fuel filter because it was easy enough to do, and I don't think it had been done before. Feels a bit more energetic, but I think the vibration is the same/tiny bit worse. still havent done the knock sensor. What is the best way to check the motor mounts? Ive watched the engine while a friend shifted it from Park to Drive/Rev, and didnt really notice extreme movement, but i'm not an expert on engine movement.

im not an expert either, i learn everything about my car from here site.:aufkopfhauen-big:
i used prybar and flashlight, check out the site below

i hope it helps!

so throttle and cruise control cable check out, wonder if it is the TPS? I dont know if there is a lot of harm being done by driving it and the RPM's idle at 2k in neutral and 1500 in gear. Transmission seems to shift smoothly even on cold mornings, but I bet due to higher RPMs gas is being consumed quicker...
Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I'm having the same problem after just having a transmission replaced, I'm hoping the mount was unseated when the trans was out and is vibrating now since the alternative is the torque converter is bad.
Ive experienced the same problem on my 09' X. It only happens when i am stopped and im pretty sure it is the air conditioning kicking in. (Just a theory)
