Newbie here. I apologize if I am breaking the rules. I've done some searches and I haven't seen this specific question answered so I am going to give this a shot.

2004 Xterra with over 180k miles. About 2 years (and 20k miles) ago, the timing belt snapped so I had it and water pump replaced. Now, it appears that the water pump is leaking like sieve. I know the standard is to just replace the timing belt and water pump at the same time since the whole assembly has to come off to change the pump anyway. Given that the timing belt is fairly new, would it still be foolish to just replace the water pump and leave the (still quite new) timing belt?

Any thoughts... positive or negative... appreciated.

A quality timing belt is $25-$30 bucks, I would throw a new one on and "reset the clock" from 20k miles back to 0.

Are you sure it is the water pump? Also check the thermostat housing for leakage. Use Permatex 82194 Ultra Grey Rigid High-Torque RTV w/ NO paper gasket on the pump and thermostat housing.
