Good Morning everyone!

So I have a 2003 Xterra 3.3 non S/C. 144k miles. Took it out and cleaned up the engine bay...done literally hundreds before so I am not a novice at this...just never done an Xterra till now. Anyhow...Cleaned it up..got in and started it...rough idle....Only had it happen to me 2x and this is one of them in over 25+ years of detailing lol. So it ran rough, no CEL....got home, let it idle for about 10 mins...it got better and ran fine. Cool.

Well then the next time I started it, have a CEL....running fine, not missing. Just a CEL...I get the following:
P0152 02 Sensor Circuit High voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
P0328 Knock Sensor 1 circuit High Input (Bank 1 or single sensor)

I can clear the codes...sometimes they stay off for a cycle..but then come right back, same codes.

Noticed the plugs for the 02's are right by the manifold so I took them apart last night and blew them out with Air and put di-electric grease in there in case of any missed moisture. Nothing seemed really wet but better safe than sorry. Put it back together..light stayed off for this driving cycle, then came back on next startup.

Is there any thing else I might have in-advertently gotten water in that is a common issue on these? It still runs fine and NEVER had a history of CEL until immediately after I washed the bay. I still kinda think it will dry up on its own and be fine...but I want to make sure its not something I am missing that is easily remedied without waiting for it to dry on its own.

Thanks for any help!

Dave

wow..82 reads and no suggestions lol.

So I would like to do the resistor bypass I think...but the links are so old there are no good pics of the how to? I have been searching the web and all sites have the same issue.

Should I just replace the 02 sensor or do you believe it to be water damage on that part ? I hear the wires are brittle sometimes and cause the issue....just found it odd that it happened right after cleaning it.

Money says the The knocks sensor had NOTHING to do with washing the bay. it was probably there already, it won't cause the light on the dash to illuminate.

so the real issue is the O2. and you probably just need to replace it. you may have got water on it and it shorted out or the other thing to check is the ground strap to the header.

Thank you Sir...yeah I was thinking the same on the Knock sensor after reading...but I might as well do the resistor bypass and see if it peps it up a bit right. :)

So, I will go up tonight and get a sensor for the drivers side closest to the engine 02 sensor and see if that takes care of the issue.

have the same issue...

I don't have a code reader right now but after an engine bay bath
it is running rough. Assuming it is in limp mode, service engine light has come on.

think it needs a new 02?

I just bought the truck and don't have a ton of history on it.
It seems to have been well maintained.

thanks,
Chad

You need to get your hands on a code readier. Autozone will scan for free.

It could be any sensor making the X run poorly

Update....I unplugged all the sensor harnesses...blew them out with compressed air...let them sit overnight. Put di-electric grease on the contacts and put back together...all good. No more issues. Just thought I'd let you guys know that it fixed itself basically with a little basic work.
