To anyone,
I have a 2005 Xterra that belonged to my wife for years. I bought it for her back in 2005 when I was heading out for first combat deployment and she has loved and driven the hell out of it. Fast forward now to present day, we have gifted this vehicle to our now 17 yo daughter. Here is where the question lies...my daughter's 18th bday comes in just a few months and we would love to modify the hell out of this vehicle and give her something very spectacular to call her own. Everything on the vehicle is currently stock from original purchase aside from some changed hoses, tires etc for normal maintenance.

My daughter has put up with a hell of a lot for the past 17 yrs being the daughter of a US Marine. She has endured saying goodbye many times through her life as I deploy and over the past 3 years she has had to change high schools 3 times! I am looking for ideas for a truly unique modification. Looking to put in a custom stereo/navigation system, fog light deck, brush guards, small lift, surf racks and a custom paint job. Asking for some assistance/advice from fellow owners concerning some ideas you might have and where to look for the products to support the change. Look forward to hearing back from anyone that is interested

The how to/diy section has tons of ideas. I started with a pml and bedlined plastics. Good luck and most importantly Semper fi.

step 1. lift it.
step 2. throw some nice tires to match the lift
step 3. LIGHTS
step 4. trail gear.
step 5. add personal touches that she'd like. like colors, stickers, ect.
i started with an ARB metal winch bumper so the deer dont have a chance, than added HID's "headlights" extremely bright. than upgraded my dashboard with LEDs lifted it than. and now im adding gauges. goodluck and post up a before and after picture so we can all enjoy. happy modding ! :)

X2 on the how to section, even more specifically the List of all DIYs.

Also, I agree with lights. They make it look a lot better, in my opinion, and they help with visibility at night so it's a win win!

Any questions at all, just ask us! Chances are someone on here has your answer. I think I speak for everyone when I say, we greatly appreciate your service.

Sounds great!

I would say to go here as a starting point:

Nissteclifts.com

4x4parts.com

Keep in mind that 2000 - 2004 X's are a different truck with the same name, and that your 2005 is the body style after the 2004's. (2000 - 2004 are called first generation. 2005+ X's are called 2nd gen)

Almost anything made for the 2005 - 2013 X's will work, as they are essentially the same from 2005 - 2013.

Enjoy!

Check out PRGproducts.com for the lift, spacers and shackles should be fine if its not going to be taken offroad too much.

For the stereo, I love my pioneer h/u. Its the avh3200 bt, Id recommend it or one of the new pioneer app radios which let you use iphone and android functions through the touchscreen interface. Id suggest doing research at crutchfield.com and then purchasing at sonicelectronix.com
Ive got a pretty serious stereo in my 05 X so feel free to PM me any questions about that.

Most users here will tell you to avoid the brush guard, as it just becomes a damage multiplier in a collision, even with deer and other animals. Id maybe opt for a small bullbar (less leverage) that mounts directly to the frame under the bumper. This will give you a spot for a pair of lights.

Also check out xoskel.com for light bars for the roof, or the one that goes in the mouth of the bumper.

And most importantly, post pics of whatever you decide to do! Happy modding! sure your daughter will be thrilled!

From one Marine to another, your best resource is all around you. One of your fellow Marines knows how to do everything you want to do to the x and we have and always will work for cheap! If I were near I would be more than willing to lend a hand, tool, work space, idea... Or if nothing more, a beer and a slice to help fuel the cause.

Put a 2" lift on and a nice wheel and tire combo from Discount tire and thats plenty for almost any 17year old girl. I would avoid the brushguard though as they almost always cause more harm than good.

Toss a couple 12"s in the back if she likes musicwith 1000watts or so lol.

Thank you for your service Sir.
