I have a question about fitment on an engine.
VQ40DE nissan v6 4.0
Nissan and the reman part #s are the same for a long-block on these engines.Obviously these were installed as you know on frontiers, xterra's , pathfinders, and I believe even equators from like 2004- up .
So here my question why do various websites have discrepancy as to whether these blocks are interchangeable.
Can you tell me why a 2005 xterra block could not be replaced with a 2014 or 2015 long block? The only one thread I found in research on this subject said... that the oil sending unit is different?(not a big deal)
I am sure I am not the first to wonder this. If I go to say ebay , or lkq to purchase a complete engine for a 2005 the match is all over the place. Ebay says 2005-2008 or 2005-2012 and the same with LKQ except I truly cannot see their compatibility factor. But, if I want to buy a reman motor or new... they are all the same long-block. So, having said all that,..... if as a regular joe out there I want to replace my engine on a 2005 xterra with a recycled motor, and obviously I want as new as I can get. Would I be Correct in my logic that the long-block is compatible from 2005-2015(using your 2005 harness ect.). And the websites that are giving various definitions of compatibility is due too possibly with wire harnesses and injectors which, I don't need, is this the reason it is saying they don't interchange? ,
From the cast numbers - it appears the engine / long blocks are interchangeable;

2005 4.0L = Cam Cast # AL5; Crank Cast # EA2; Right Head Cast # R-EA2; Left Head Cast # L-EA2; Block Cast # VQ40DE, EA2; CVTCS

2014 4.0L = Cam Cast # AL5; Crank Cast # EA2; Right Head Cast # R-EA2; Left Head Cast # L-EA2; Block Cast # VQ40DE, EA2; CVTCS
Thanks and God Bless:|:|
