I've been trying to find a way to make a lasting contribution to the site, as many others have doing the How-to's etc, and I think I have found my calling. I would like to populate a table of tire sizes and what mods/trimming you can fit them with. I had planned on doing all of the research and compiling myself, then just presenting the finished product but that has only gotten me so far. I need two things from my fellow CXers:
1. Table Suggestions??? Format, Layout, anything
2. Please list your tire info (as much info as you have), any applicable mods and any trimming or adjustments you made to fit the tire and stop rubbing. Such as: 1st Gen 265/75/15 (or 31/10.5/15), 15x7" Rims, 4.5" Backspace, PML, 2" BL with minimal trimming.
Here's the spreadsheet so far... as you can see I NEED INFO! (Yellow means complete information... thanks!)
ill let everyone else chime in since i just have 1.5" spacers on 265/75 and stock wheels, im fairly certain my setup is pretty unique in that spacers will add a whole new dynamic to yo chartz
but dude this will be so freakin awesome, and will possibly be the most viewed thread on the site
bc there is a tire thread every 15min and we can just start posting the link!!!
Dustin, I'm glad you think it'll be usefull. The reason I got the idea is because i'm looking at a couple new sets (one DD and one offroading) and there's really not a good place to get information from. Hence the chart. BTW, the 265/75/16's on there are from a post you made. The 1.5" WS stands for wheel spacer so... COVERED! haha, i only have it as minor plastic trimming tho... thoughts?
wow, great idea, now we can just point noobs to this chart instead of reapeating 12934687549123846 times
FYI in case you want to put this in the chart:
265/70/r17 on 4.5" backspace + 1.5" wheel spacer (so total of 3" backspace) will rub a TINY bit at FULL LOCK, even with a 2"BL and the torsion bars cranked all the way on a 3" SL

Great idea! Do you want to add info on speedo errors with the larger tire sizes (the second most popular tire size question)? It should be easy enough to generate a chart with common sizes and the correction - or just a link to a website that does the calc.
edited to add: Since you've already done the diameter calcs on the metric sizes the correction factor is just the ratio of the diameters, ie 33/30.5 = 1.082 = 8.2% increase. So running 33s means that your speedo and odometer are off slow/short by about 8%. Make sense?
What does that equate to? 265/70/15? Aren't most tires sold using the latter notation? Thanks.
Edit: Scratch that I figured out a way to back-calculate it an then round off to the nearest 5 to get back to metric. Yours are 265/75/15's i'm pretty sure. Thanks!

Great suggestion. Yup, makes sense, but what should I use as the reference diameter? Stock? What is stock for 1st and/or 2nd Gen? And doesn't it vary depending on packages such as off-road etc? I'd like to incorporate that into the sheet, I just need more info I guess.
Yeah, use stock since that's what the calibration for the speedo/odo is based on. Stock on my first gen is 265/70/16.
There are two ways to list a tire size. The most common for passenger vehicles is the metric, ie 265/70/16 where 265 is the tire width in millimeters, 70 is the aspect ratio (sidewall height) as a percentage of the tire width and 16 is the wheel diameter. The other, 31/10.5/15, lists the tire diameter (31"), tire width (10.5") and wheel diameter (15").
agreed, there should be differentiation between the gens.
i have an 01 w/ 31"x10.5"x15" bfgs's, sorry that i dont have the metric sizes for it. they are on 15x8 inch rims w/ 3.44" BS with a good bit of trimming, plastic only though.

Thanks for the info, what mods do you have that would affect the clearance? (I put x's on the chart that correspond the the xterra's mods that can handle that particular tire size) THANKS!
Questions:
1. Any idea what the second gen stock tire size is?
2. What are the stock rim setbacks (for 1st and 2nd gen) for those of us noobs... or better yet, how do we determine the setback of already purchased rims?

also for 1st Gen X I have seen 3 SL and people fit 32's & 33's on with I am guess plastic trimming or remove them or w/ metal to trim.
yes...I still need to trim some more of the fenders (metal) to get even more flex out of her. w/ the set up I have now
