thinking of putting the titan motor in my 02 X has anyone done the swap? I've done motor swaps on cars before and was wondering if the mounts are the same and what i will need other then a Titan motor, tranny, Computer, and drive shaft and maybe a new gear ratio????

A Motor, tranny, ECU then a flash afterwords plus you'll need a key made for the vehicle from nissan. Which is what a frontier owner & friend had to do. His name is AndrewVK on CF. Get on there and ask him..

I'd be willing to bet the mounts won't be the same. You'll almost definitely need a new radiator. I did a V8 swap into my Wrangler and putting the engine in was the easy part. It's all the little things that add up and become difficult. Things to consider are the electrical and plumbing routing and function. Also the steering shaft, brake master cylinder clearance, oil pan clearance, and hood clearance. The tranny will likely need additional cooling capacity. You'll also need to look into the inter-changability of the accessories (P. steering, alternator, etc.) Do as much research and pricing as you possibly can before you even touch a wrench. You might call Advance Adapters. They deal primarily with domestic swaps, but these guys REALLY know their stuff, and by far have the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

Andrew put it in a 2008...which is more like a second gen if you know what I mean...IE: Less of a stretch than trying to shoe horn a Titan engine into a FIRST GEN Xterra.

So, essentially, everything will be changed, suspension, steering, tranny, diffs, harness, the engine bay, everything...because nothing at all will line up.

It certainly sounds like a bunch of work, but reminds me of when I put a Ford V8 into a 61 Scout, which came with a 4 banger. By the time I was done, the only Scout parts was the body and frame!
I was on a mission (an a lot younger)! Did it make sense? Not really sure for most people, but I drove the piss out of it in the scrub for many years and she was a rock crawling jewel! back then, you could not go to the store and buy swap parts, but you did not need to deal with computer changes and smog control inspections! I think all that work really made sense to my Karma. My free time was hard, but rewarding work!
Go for it!

Nothing lines up, but it will fit. You Will need to consider:
Body lift & floorboard cutting
Headers
Radiator
Cutting inner fenders
Suspension (don't think it's possible with IFS, but then I never measured for that)
Wiring, painless will make a harness to hook to yours
If standard, placement of shifter
Rear DS angle, it's short

Just a start. I am in the process (and have been for almost two years now) of getting everything ready for this swap. Have the engine, trans and transfer case (though might swap that for an Atlas)

I have 90% of the mounting/cutting/stuffing and such figured out. Wiring will be done by painless, as I hate electrical gremlins. My only hangup at this point is smog. Living in Ca, and wanting this to be street legal I have to have it smog legal. This has been a major pain to gather info on and get a straight answer. If I can't get the answers I want by next winter I will be scrapping this idea and just making a tuber with the drivetrain.

Good luck with it. And remember, no matter how hard it getts, 98% of the problems you run into can be solved by spending tons more cash. :wink-big:

Have you considered just getting a Titan, and removing the body, and swapping on the Xterra body?

I think it would be faster and easier.

Haha, I would have done that, but the Titan I got had been folded nearly in half. Picked it up cheap. With all the damage, it surprised the hell out of me that the drivetrain was intacked.

To be honest I would have never even considered this swap if I hadn't picked up the whole truck for $800. But since I did, I figured "what the hay" :wink-big:

^........ Pics?
Of what? The engine and drivetrain on the floor of my garage? Or the folded in half Titan?

Might still have the Titan photos somewhere. As for the swap, as stated still in the design/planning stages. All measurments and mounts that have been made were done using wrecking yard chassis. Cheeper, easier that way, and I can still wheel mine until I'm ready to do it. Tis not my first swap. :wink-big:
