Tail light fuse keeps blowing

My tail lights and dash lights keep blowing fuses, prior to that problem my ac was leaking water into the footwell area passenger side.
I wondered if the water had some how engulfed the wiring loom under the carpet, so I stripped it all back and sure enough it was all soaking with water.
I dried out everything and put it all back, but the fuses are stil blowing.
Any ideas as to what it may be that is making the fuses blow?

Mine was blowing when hooked my small utility trailer to the plug on my hitch. Turns out my trailer wiring was jacked, so every time I plugged up the little 4-wire harness, it would blow my fuse, so maybe check to see if your hitch wiring is in good shape.

That happened to me once. Mine was the front bumper marker lights. One of them had a small cut in the wiring and it was shorting out because of that. It happened right after I was driving through snow so you may have a similar issue as I did with the moisture aspect.

If you can find any exposed wiring there, you might find your problem.
Isn't there an issue with the wiring where it enters/leaves the rear hatch/body sometimes becoming exposed and shorting to ground on the rear hatch/body sheet metal?

Bingo, this is what came to my mind. It can crunch through all kinds of wires.

Also, did you clean out the AC drain?
I couldn't guite see how clean out the ac drain, but I did pull up the carpet and interior and dried everything out as it was all lying in water, but after it was all dry I tried another fuse and it stayed on for quite a while, that is until I got in to drive it and then it blew again. Whatever it is it is somewhere where it is moving.
Does anyone know how to clear out the ac drain?
My 2002 Xterra blows the fuse randomly and usually after my wife has had it parked at the airport for a few days.

I suppose water is getting in somewhere. I need a warm sunny day, a few hours, some silicone and electricial tape. Too bad it's winter here.

Until Spring rolls around I'll keep a supply of spare fuses.
I do not know about the first gens first hand, but on my 07 I kept noticing my carpet was wet all the time. Mostly during the summer months when the ac was running. I finally got around to working on finding the leak, I thought there was a good possibly that it could be getting in from where I passed the 2ga wire through the wire boot on the passenger side. but what I found was the ac drain was clogged with a muddobber nest. I also pulled the fan motor out and pulled out a bunch of acorn pieces, I am guessing from mice.
same problem...

But how do I remove the front side marker? That bulb is out, but I can't figure out how to get to the bulb to get it out. I bought a manual, but it doesn't help...
I have had my 04 xterra for about 4 months. For the past few weeks it keeps popping the tail light fuse under the hood only. It doesn't matter if it's a 10 20 or 30 amp they last about the same. Except when pulling a trailer it will work fine. Every 5-10 miles if lights are on I'll have to pull over to change it. Finally getting fed up with buying fuses, So I have pulled the rear tail lights to check the wires. I checked all the wires for the trailer hook up and at the hatch pulling the rubber back. Even upfront at the maker lights where it runs through the whole in the chassis. I haven't found anything. It still has the stock radio. So wile I was checking around I found a module behind the passenger mud flap. Could this have anything to do with it cause I live on a dirt road that happens to flood from time to time.

the bulb and wire pull out in a twisting motion the rest stays on the vehichle
im having this same issue as soon as i put a new 15A fuse in. i did however take a carpet shampooer to it but that was about two weeks ago, i live in arizona and my truck sits parked in the sun for 10 hours a day. my buddy was saying his X started doing this and it turned out to be a defective bulb in the tail lights.
i removed the seats to give it a deep clean while shampooing but i still dont know whats causing this for me. before i go removing the carpet does anyone know where the wires are actually located under the carpet in an 04?
For anybody that might be wondering why this is going on and they've checked all those things for chafing I discovered my problem was actually the three little bulbs that were in the middle tail light they were blown and one of them was causing a short. Good luck to y'all
