Hey guys,

I have a 2004 xterra se s/c automatic with 4x4. Over about the past year, I have begun having issues with the speedometer getting stuck, and now the tachometer as well. The speedo and tach needles don't just lose power and drop to zero, they tend to get stuck around 45mph and 1000rpm, respectively. The odometer and cruise control work just fine regardless, so I don't think it's the speed sensor. I've also noticed that if I place a few fingers on the plastic in front of the gauges and push, the speedo and tach come back to life momentartily, until they get stuck again a few seconds later. I also wanted to know if the instrument cluster ends up being replaced, will the odometer start over at zero with the new cluster or is the odometer mileage info stored elsewhere?

Thanks!

I would get a junk yard unit. The mileage is stored in the cluster you would need to take it to a dealer to have reprogrammed.
