Some pinging under heavy load / hills

Well, my 200k mile truck is pinging a bit under heavy throttle and load trying to keep up going uphill and such (yeah, its a real dog to begin with).

Whats the order of operations for troubleshooting? Forget about it? Run premium gas?

Distributor and wires and plugs were done in the somewhat recent past (under 50k ago)

Knock sensor has been bypassed.

how would one test for that?

i have no codes, and fuel consumption seems alright. truck is quite slow but... that doesnt sound unusual either.
