Some pinging under heavy load / hills

884 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  beef tits
Well, my 200k mile truck is pinging a bit under heavy throttle and load trying to keep up going uphill and such (yeah, its a real dog to begin with).

Whats the order of operations for troubleshooting? Forget about it? Run premium gas?

Distributor and wires and plugs were done in the somewhat recent past (under 50k ago)

Knock sensor has been bypassed.

Check your cats. Mine didn't stop doing pinging until I installed headers. My cats were melted/clogged.
Slow they are. Look at your manifolds. If they are cracked your cats are either bad or on their way out. They don't throw codes until its bad enough to make your o2 sensors read funny.

Could also be knock sensor. Both are pretty common issues.
