So I'm out to buy a new handgun. I'm really interested in the SIG P229 in .40 cal. Then I come across the P250. Just wondering if anyone has any kind of range time or owns one or can give me some pros or cons on this firearm. I really like the .40 cal load but the price is just a little too good to pass up on the P250 and I can shoot 9mm all day long for pennies... ( not litterally ) but it feels like it compared to the price of .40 cal ammo. I am definitely going with a SIG but just wanted to know if anyone had any opinion on the P250 because it is a hell of a deal on paper. I appreciate any input...

I have shot both about 300 rounds through each, when my dad was looking at getting one, for all intensive purposes they are the same gun. That's how sig is, all there guns are almost the same just different size and weight. yes the .40 is bigger, but the 9mm is cheaper to operate and if you place your shot, just as deadly. If your not dead set on sig sauer, we both liked the Israeli military import dessert eagle 9mm better than both. And if I remember correctly I think it's actually an American company or at least they have an American city on the gun.

Edit: I was mixing up the ar I just got for my birthday with the pistol. It's definitely made in Israel.

I have a Sig P6 (ex-police version of 225) [9mm] and it's great in all regards other than a bit restrictive as to what loads it likes for this particular barrel, but that was by design since it's police-spec. Sig makes excellent firearms, though.

If you are looking for something a tad smaller than the P229 - try the P239. its available in 9mm, .40 and .357 sig.. Im not a big fan of the polymer frames/grips to be honest..

ALSO - if you want to save money look at the P229 Classic .22 pistol (about $520ish).. Then you can buy a x-change kit in 9/40/357s for about $320.. buying it as a .22 than then adding the centerfire is cheaper than buying in reverse.. topgunsupply.com will have good current pricing..

The thought behind the P250 is the modular design and the ability to swap barrels between .40 cal and 9mm. I can shoot 9mm for fun and practice all day long alot cheaper than the .40 . I like the .40 cal load alot for defense and I know I get alot of the "practice what you plan to shoot" which I do. However with the modular design of the P250 I can swap out barrels and go have lots of fun with the 9mm and not have to save up a weeks pay to go shooting. Not to mention the P250 is about $400 chepaer than the P226. Just wondering if anyone had any experience good or bad with this particular platform on performance issues etc. Any pros or cons would be greatly appreciated.
