Hey All,

I put some seafoam in the engine(no issues there) and then pulled off a vacuum tube and sucked up about a 1/3 of the bottle and let it sit for an hour and then started it up and got the huge cloud of smoke as expected, but what I didn't expect is that it's causing there to be a weird smell coming through my air vents. Does anyone know why that might be?

The exhaust is pretty shot, which I'm going to be fixing soon. wondering if exhaust fumes are just getting pulled up into the engine right from the engine bay? Did I put the seafoam into the wrong vacuum tube??

If nothing else, performance HAS seemed to improve, so I guess it did what I was hoping it would do!

you have it on open air instead of recirculate and no exhaust system is 100% sealed even brand new when you do the seafoam be sure to leave the vents on recirculate. mine smells in the vents if i do that as well even though i get no smoke in the engine bay indicating an exhaust leak. like i said every exhaust system leaks a small bit out as they have to use thick metal gaskets between all the parts and they are never 100% perfectly sealed, just the nature of the metal on metal they have to do in that system. what you are smelling is the carbon in the exhaust that the seafoam sloughed off the dirty parts and its not very pleasant. if you seafoam again and leave the hood open when you start er up to get the smoke show you will most likely see a ton of smoke coming out the part of the system that is leaking, the seafoam treatment is actually a good way to hunt down exhaust leaks. also the vents when set to pull in fresh air from outside do so from the cowl right under the wiper arms and it is open to the engine bay below right where the exhaust runs out of the engine so if your exhaust is leaking and shot like you say that explains it, leave the vents on recirculate and you shouldnt smell it or it should be much less noticeable.
