I have an 01xterra xe automatic. She has been idling rough for a few seconds when I start her up but then goes back to normal rpms. Any clue as to what the problem is?

Might try the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If it's got a small leak in the diaphragm it will leak unmetered gas into the intake manifold. This might not be enough to cause misfire after it's running, but it will leak gas into the cylinders and cause a little flooding while the engine is turned off and the pressure int he system leaks down. This will cause difficult starting and/or rough idle on start up.

With the engine running just pop the small vacuum line that goes from the FPR to the back of the intake manifold off and see if gas dribbles out. If it does you'll want to replace the FPR. Since this requires removing the intake manifold you may want to do the valve over gaskets as a "while you're in there" item. If no gas comes out you can move on and try to find something else.
