Recently, while driving in New York, I was pulled over and ticketed by a state trooper for a flashing rear center brake light. I'm an original owner 2001 Xterra owner and while over 16 years have occasionally been stopped, no other cop said the blinking light was an illegal modification or illegal. The center light always blinked for a few seconds, when I hit the brakes, since I drove it off the dealer lot. I was curious if any other owner has come across this problem??

The problem is probable in the wiring at the top of the rear hatch ,pull back the rubber boot and check all the wires.

Not a loose wire came factory from dealer this way. Flashes briefly 4-5 seconds then goes solid curious if anyone knows this to be illegal or a ticket-able offense?
