Hi I recently just got done driving a few trails in the black hills and what I thought was just a bird chirping soon realized that it was my vehicle. Anyways, I am pretty sure I have deduced it was coming from my front tire drivers side (I am not a 100% sure since it only squeaks for 1 to 2 seconds then stops for what seams like 30 seconds and then repeats). I recently have been having problems with my 4x4 shifting process taking a lot longer then the standard amount of time, sometimes it can take a couple miles i know it could still be the slack on the line. Any ideas?

It is a 08 with around 120000 miles pretty original everything, just looking for the thoughts so I can start the process of elimination and get back to the adventures.

Hey, found it. I'm no expert on the drive system but the front drivers side is where the transfer case is. So delays in shifting in and out of 4wd and a squeak sure seem related. Our 4wd is activated by a electric solenoid so no pull cable like the old days. Start by checking the fluid level in the TC. I bet it is low. Have you changed the transfer case fluid? There are drain and fill plugs so you can do it yourself and it is cheap to do.

As general maintenance with 120k on your X, you should change the transmission and dif fluids soon too.

I was getting around to the routine maintenance just wanted to look into that sound first plus cash flow is always a thing too.
