i have the 2004 2.4l xterra. it has the ka24de engine. the 1998 240sx has the same motor. will perfomace headers that fit the 240 fit my X? any ideas on other performance mods?

I know that the intake manifold is different, but the headers 'should' work. you may have issues with the collector, as the engine bay on the 240 and the X are a bit different.

The KA is a stout motor for a little cast 4 banger, I'd say turbo it! LOL. Turboed KAs get some nice low-end out of them, better torque than a SR.

Naw, for cheap mods go with a cat-back exhaust. Or the factory air-box mod (not sure if that still applies to the KA or not). Or both.

BTW, Welcome.

Oh, and your ka24de was never in the 89 240. 89-90 had the ka24e, the single cam version. The de was in the 2000-2004 Nissan Xterra, 1998-2004 Nissan Frontier, 1993-2001 Nissan Altima and 1991-1998 Nissan 240SX. Plus some stuff that we can't get state side...

can you take a pic of your engine bay with the K&N cone filter setup? I too have a 4 banger and it feels underpowered. which other airfilter did you remove? I didn't know there are 2 filters.

I too have wondered about the same header set up. To me, I wish the cat system was a bit further down the exhaust system and not mated up to the stock exhaust manifold. It makes better sense to turbo it since modifications would have to be done either way you decide to go. I have a Honda Technician ( he specializes in Nissans too) at work that is a genuis with Turbo installs and swears it can be done. I would love him to do the job but I have to come up with the green....a lot of green just to get all of the parts. I have seen 4 cyl. turbo kits on Ebay for the Nissan K engine but not sure if the seller really has any idea for the correct k engine. Anyways, for now I have a K&N air filter and I removed the air duct elbow that connects between the air filter housing and the long narrow air tube. It's located on top of the radiator on the passenger side and it just pops right off. It leaves an opening like a "ram air" effect and it really works for HP gain.
