Whats up everyone. Im new to the forums but hope to be on here often.

My uncle was gonna trash his xterra but I told him I wanted it. I think its a 2000.

So first things first, I turn the key and nothing happens. No lights no nothing. I checked the terminal and it was corroded! I bought a new terminal, installed it and cleaned everything up. Nothing happens :/

So I jump it and it starts. When I rev the engine it bogs out. I let it run for about 15 minutes then shut it off. When I go to start it again it wont turn over.

I connected the OBD and the codes P035 and P100 pop up. Knock sensor and Maf sensor.

I bought MAF cleaner and sprayed the shit out of the MAF sensor. Plugged it back in and the code still pops up.

My uncles friend is a mechanic and says its the distributor. I just want a few others suggestions before spending any more money. Im probably going to the junk yard tomorrow. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. My bad if theres already a lot of post on the same subject. I tried doing research before I made this post.

The dist is big problem with xterras, but going to the junk yard is not going to help because they are all bad also . You need to to google the problem to find the correct dist , there are many different dist and if you dont get the right one it wont start.

I dont get it? What would I have to google? Like what part number goes with what year? And would a bad dist be the reason that nothing happens when I crank the car? I was also considering purchasing a dist on amazon that says it fits most X's , Pathfinders and stuff lol now I gotta reconsider.

Okay so I went to the yard today and picked up a dist for $50 bucks and it looked to be in good condition.

I removed the old dist and took it all apart and it looked pretty good! No metal shavings or anything un normal looking.

I installed the dist from the junkyard. I didnt have the timing light but I made marks before taking out the old dist. I tried to line it up exact.

The car doesnt crank or do anything so I had to jump it. The engine sounded exactly the same :/
And when Id rev the engine it would still bog out above 2000 rpm.

I checked the obd and the same codes poped up. I cleared the codes and all of a sudden the engine got quiet. I reved the engine and it wouldnt bog now.

I left the car running for about 20 minutes. It was still quiet with an occasional rattling noise coming from the dist area and then it would quiet down again.

I turned off the engine and when I turned the key , this time , the lights and radio came on but it wouldnt turn over.

Any suggestions? Im going to rent the timing light tomorrow when napa opens and do the timing.

Would my ignition timing, being off, be the reason why the car wont turn over? But it will start if i jump it. So im wondering if its battery related or if its the timing or both.

Also im going to rent a timing light today. Do I set the gun at zero and then match the notches on the pulley to 15? Or do I set the gun to 15 and set the notches to zero?

thanks

Like i said before the dist from the is junk yard is dead the shaft bearings are worn out . The starting problem could be a relay there are 3 up front all the same the starter is closer to the dash move them around and see the horn or a/c stop working . Timing light both ideas will work .

No but there is a number under the neck of the first dist and that must match the new one ,give that number . First there is CSS senor behind the drivers side head on top of the bell housing check the wire clean the connector, if it does not start get a new one not a junk yard is under $20 change that first.

Turns out the battery was dying. Drove the x around for a while and now it starts right up. Still has the same issues tho. Dies when at a stop. I have to put it in neutral when I stop. Same codes.

Nappas closed right now so ill have to wait till tomorrow to rent the timing light.

Also is this dist good? It has the same number as my original one.

See the third line down on specs.
Replaces dealer part number: 22100-7B001
If this # in not on the neck of the original dist than no if the # is the same yes. The po35 is CSS sensor change this first before the dist only $20

Yup same number. Thats a huge relief. Going to get a timing light today hopefully. And buy the right dist later.

Also, the css sensor is the crankshaft sensor right? So will that, most likely, help with the knock sensor problem? Im not trying to question your advice, Im just trying to have a better understanding of everything. Especially being on a budget right now.

Thanx for your time. I appreciate it

I had some bad problems with a 350Z bogging down.
Making bad noises while running too.
Turned out it was that the MAF had gotten wet as the seals were leaking.

So a bad MAF can give u some goofy problem.
Was fixed w/ aused one form junkyard that was OEM.
Many replacement auto parts store MAFs are bad from the get-go (ask me how I know)

Ya man im about to order a new one online soon. I bought MAF cleaner and cleaned mine but it still had the same problem. So Im just going to order a new one.
Good thing you told me about most replacement MAFs being bad. Now I gotta make sure the one I buy is OEM. Maybe I should go to the yard again and pick one up, I just hope that one isnt bad as well lol.

Man I just cant wait to get this thing running already!

Imma start with a dist , Maf, CSS, and I need to buy a timing light. All comes out to around $250
Im rambling now lol but thanx for the input man I appreciate it

OEM ones are VERY expensive, 700 dollars.

If you are paying much less its not OEM no matter what they say.

Often their "rebuilt" replacement MAFS , "OEM like" are simply cleaned OEM ones but not new ones or rebuilt ones

IMO best bet is to go to junkyard and find one cheap and try it .

Nissans are sensitive to "Off-voltages"

$700!!! Daaaaaaamn The x aint even worth 8! lol Shit imma pick one up at the yard. So that leaves me with the dist, timing light, and css to order online.

I cant complain about the money being put in tho. Im getting the x for free so, thats always good lol

Ok so I finally got the money for the parts. Does anyone have a recommended site that they use to buy parts? I found some on amazon and ebay, if it says it will replace 22100-7b001 should I trust it? It just seems weird to me that ebay has it for only $70 bucks and other websites are like $150.

If not ebay or amazon is there other websites that are highly used here? Or does it not matter as long as its the same part number as the original?
