Hello,
I just bought my XTerra about a month ago. Its a 2004 XTerra with the naturally aspirated 3.3 V-6 mated to the 5 speed manual 4x4 trans. She has 112,000 miles at present, and I am about to start the process of going through and doing the maintenance.
Yesterday, it threw the SES light at me. I checked the codes on it today and found that it was P0430 and P0328. P0430 is the left bank catalytic converter and P0328 is the knock code if I'm not mistaken.
Now, I've read that P0328 is not something to worry about, and that P0430 could be either an Lamda (O2) sensor or the actual cat. Either way, I live in CA so both codes need to be gone. It just passed smog about 2 months ago, but it still needs to be fixed so may as well fix it soon.
Interesting thing is, that both codes fired twice in succession. Same order, P0430 followed by P0328. So it appears they are related somehow. I just cleared the codes and I think I will go for a half hour drive or so to see if I can't get the codes to throw again, I might go get some gas and some spark plugs as I figure I probably need them anyhow.
Also, looked at the grounding wires between the header heat shields and the frame and they look dirty, but in fair condition.
Any thoughts on what the issue might be so I don't buy anything I don't need to just yet?
