Ruled out the fuel pump and filter. Posting in a new thread since no one has responded in over a week on the other thread. Now I'm trying to make sure the distributor is properly adjusted. With engine at top dead center this is a picture of where the wiper in the distributor is. But how do I adjust it? Oh yeah

I have been having issues with my 04. I was low on gas, and I was trying to get to the gas station when it just shut off on me going around a corner at about 10 mph. I got it off the road and put gas in it, but it still wouldn't start. After days of tinkering with it, came to find out that there was no spark in my plugs and wires and my rotor didn't spin when I turned it over. The timing belt needs replaced, and I am not a mechanic so I can't fix it myself. It seems I can't find a garage that wants to fix it either. Beyond frustrated at this point.

if your harmonic balancer marks are in line with the pointer on the front of the oil pump (which is what I assume you mean by "top dead center"), then the rotor for your distributor should be pointing directly at contact number one of the distributor cap. in order to adjust this, you must loosen (not remove) the 12mm bolt in a slot on the side of the distributor and rotate it in order to overcome bad timing. If you have the 3.3L engine, be careful not to damage the TPS mounted on the side of the intake manifold. I use a ratchet with a 6" extension, universal joint, then the 12mm socket. This allows pretty good control without messing around with that Throttle Position Sensor.

If your timing is way off, you can remove the distributor and rotate it to where it needs to be. Just remove that bolt you just loosened and pull the whole thing out until you can turn it.

One question before you get started, though: WHY do you need to adjust it? What are the symptoms?
