Om stereo stolen, wires cut dash lights out

918 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  kms1990
2001 Nissan Xterra. The factory stereo was stolen out of it and the thieves cut the wires to do so. Since then my dash lights have been out. I was told that when I got a new stereo installed tbe dash lightsshoildwork again. New stereo has been installed professionally, and dash lights are still out. I made the mistake of letting the installers know up front about the dash lights weren't working. They basically said they're not liable for them and they are not allowed to troubleshooter or check them. Any thoughts on how I can get my dash lights working again

Thank you for the reply. That will definitely be helpful. Yes like I said they cut the wires on the original factory radio. And that's when the dash light was obviously out. I took it to a mechanic and he said that once I get a new stereo in there the dash light should be back on. So I purchased a new stereo through BestBuy they professionally installed it. There still is no dash light. Just trying to figure out what the fix would be at this point. A couple things I read said maybe a wire could have been shorted, and also that the dash light wire needs to be grounded? Not sure if that's true
yes, the lights need a ground, honestly electrical stuff is very tricky especially in a dash of a modern vehicle there are wires of all different colors and sizes and its difficult to tell which is which on some harnesses. i would say swing by a nissan service department and see if you can get a full wiring diagram for the stereo and interior illumination
