2006 Xterra

Went to leave work the other day and after starting my truck the needle stuck and has stayed in the HIGH position, pegged. Doens't move at all. Vehicle runs fine and has plenty of oil, not over filled. What is causing this issue?

sounds like an electrical short between the gauge and sensor
