Hello, I just purchased a 2002 Xterra as a 'third' vehicle so I can have one for use in the snow and for use on fire roads. Has 104,000 miles, automatic transmission, stock 16" wheels. Seems to be totally stock. Only things I plan (need) to do immediately is get some M&S rated tires and get the timing belt replaced. We have had a lot of cars, 2x4 trucks over the years (too many what with 3 grown kids now), but never an SUV or 4x4. I have been reading the forums for quite a while now while I made the decision about purchasing an Xterra. Lots of good information from the members.

Welcome from SW WA. Pretty much any tire you get in these sizes are going to be M+S rated including highway tires. If you want them to count as traction devices, you want the severe weather rating: general grabber AT2, Goodyear Duratrac, BF Goodrich AT KO.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, what I want is something with the severe weather rating so that I can go over the pass legally when Oregon State Patrol has the traction device requirement.

Xtacular posted a great Craigslist find on some BFG AT$600 and it's in Portland. I recently got a great deal from Discount Tires and am happy with my Faulkens. Again, welcome!
