Greetings, XTerrans. New member here from the land of enchantment, or entrapment, depending on whether you're from here or moved from somewhere else.

Anyway, I have an 06 Off Road Edition and I think I've found a vehicle I'd like to keep for quite a while after the payments are done. At that point, maybe sooner, I'll be looking into some improvements such as a shrockworks bull bumper, rear bumper, sliders, etc. Not that I do much off-roading, but I've done a little and living here in NM, the off road capability is good to have. You don't have to go very far off the beaten path around here to get into some situations.

Haivng said that, I'd like to know what I should be doing to keep my X in top shape for the long haul. I use synthetic motor oil and recently did the transmission with valvoline syntheic as well. She has 52k miles so I plan on keeping it a while.

Cheers!

Welcome A Board!

Just normal maintenance really.

If you want to go above, replace ALL the lubes with synthetics for example.

The Shrockworks stuff is top notch, takes a while to get, but its amazing.

Before ordering that stuff...decide what sized TIRES you might ONE DAY upgrade to.

If sticking to 33's or so (You have 32's now), you won't need a body lift, and you can order the parts for the non-BL versions.

If you think, one day, you might want to go LARGER...then, you'll want a body lift to make room for the larger tires, and, you'll want to order the parts MADE FOR the BL.

That way...you won't get stuff, and then, later, realize you should gotten DIFFERENT stuff.

:D

The OR is very capable right out of the box btw...so, depending upon what kind of capabilities you want to have for "Situations", you can do very little and be cool, or, go as wild as you feel is in keeping with your fiscal responsibilities and objectives.

Picture

Well, it looks exactly like the picture at the top of the site. Yellow 06, Off-Road, no mods (yet).

I actually hit a dog the other night and it knocked out one of my fog lights and cracked the bumper cover. Amazingly the dog lived. Thinking of getting the shrockworks bumper beause my deductible is $500 and that cover is probably pretty pricey OEM.

@TJ, Speaking of tire sizes, does putting larger tires on affect the speedo at all? Anyone know? Mine is dead-on right now and I like it that way. I might like to go up a size but I'm not going to get too crazy. This vehicle is pretty off-road capable right off the boat.

Okay, that is a long read, and maybe I hould post this there, but exactly how many failures have occurred? Has anyone considered that people with failures might be doing maintenance themselves and putting the wrong coolant in their radiator? There are many formulations. A slight difference in chemistry might be enough to cause a galvanic reaction? I'm no expert.

I live in NM, and it does get cold here in the winter, nothing like the northeast though, and it gets pretty warm in summer, and I go to Phoenix often enough.

Cool replies, though - learning stuff already. Gracias.

Just did the bypass with the added cooler - went pretty smooth except for getting the damn hoses on that chinese cooler. Can't those people just use the same spec as everyone else?

By the way, the little tab on the stock hose clamp acts just like a knife when your hand slips. My left index fingertip has the deep gash to prove it. Looks like no guitar playing for a week or so.

I can't do any work on any vehicle without drawing blood. Seriously frustrating.

^ technically, it's canadian engineering you are angry with. canadian engineered. built in Tennessee ;) so it's more US that most US trucks and cars...lol....

also, the failures are random..and occur after the reaction takes place inside the rad. It has NOTHING to do with what type of coolant goes in the truck or maintenance for that matter.....more the type of ATF that was used in the past by nissan (matic-J) AND the composition of the orig rad, which is a nissan engineering issue. it ate through the rad tubing and leaked COOLANT into the tranny...destroying clutch packs and discs and ultimatley causing slipping and shuddering. Glad to hear you did the bypass. its the only sure way to prevent this.

good luck with your new x ! ;)
