Hello. Thanks for this site, great resource.
I have an '08. It had the crappiest wheels and tires forever. I recently put a 2" lift on it and installed some 20" wheels and 33" Nitto MT's. Now I can't drive it. I went around the block (3/4 mile) and heard a terrible grinding sound. I got back and both front wheels were very hot. Also saw metal shavings on the rims. Yowza!
Back wheels are fine, leads me to believe brakes are stuck? The sound is constant but the brakes operate to stop the truck. I just got all new brakes about a year ago and it drove fine just before the lift. I don't see any contact damage to the back of the new wheels. No obvious grooves in the brake discs. Clearance seems ok. What did I do wrong?

Here's a list of what I did:
2" shackle rear lift/ install new wheels. A OK...
2" Front lift with Bilstein 5100's
Melt front wheel well back/slight plastic trim.
This X has TPMS but I did not buy TPMS sensors on these wheels.

I had to remove the front stabilizing connecting assembly to make room for the Bilstein's to fit back up in.

EVERY old bolt was seized and wouldn't barely budge with a breaker bar. I had to cut, grind and hammer the lower mount bolts off the shocks. Total PIA.

Is it possible I screwed the brakes up in the process? I don't recall messing with them at all, but both fronts are doing the same thing. How would I best trouble shoot this issue? I am not very experienced, but I do wrench on my motorcycle. Thanks for any suggestions!

The lift isnt the problem. Rule that one out i doubt it has anything to do with that. Those rims though they might be pushing the calipers or rubbing them. Try jacking the front end up and spinning the front tires. If they make noise take the rim and tire off. If it makes no noise its the rim. If it is the rim buy some wheel spacers. Like 1 inch wheel spacers just for the front, That should fix that problem.

Hopefully ez fix

I hope its a spacer issue. That seems like a strong probability. I've been getting over pneumonia so I haven't gotten a chance to revisit the issue. I did crawl under there to give a quick look at the back of the rims. I didn't see any visible damage at all.
Since I'm such a newbie to trucks.....if I do need spacers is there a specific set I need to order or can I just get some at a PepBoys or something?

Thank You!

Alot of people say get the best you can though having a ok set from pepboys would probably work just fine. Just make sure you use thread lock. My buddy put some on his jeep we where out cruising than all sudden we thought we hit something looked around we where going 40 on a dirt road and we seen the tire go flying by. It was funny as hell but if itd been on the street it wouldnt have been too funny.

Good info! Thanks! I certainly want it to be safe, this is actually my wife's truck and she takes my kids in it. She only drives about 7k miles a year. This set up is what she wanted and it's just a grocery getter so that's why I didn't mind the street set up.

Spacers fixed it! Seems super obvious now. I just picked up some super cheap 5/16" spacers at a parts store to get her rolling. Now I'm looking for some real Wheel Centric spacers. May be hard to find because the new wheels don't have the stock center hole diameter. OF COURSE.
