My 2000 3.3L just laid down on me
Just wondering which years is compatible for it.
Xterra and Frontier with the 3.3L.
Xterra will be 2000 thru 2004, but there may be harness differences as well as hardware differences, such as EGR, etc.
Fronty could go back before 2000, but as above, check for differences.
Ok. Honestly I don't know exactly what you are talking about. Lol I'm not that much mechanically inclined. LolXterra and Frontier with the 3.3L.

First let's talk about why you think you need a new engine. My 2000 3.3L just laid down on meJust wondering which years is compatible for it.
It is making a god awful noise and there is ALOT of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I live in kentucky and when just had a snow storm come thru with wind chills of -28 and I didn't have enough antifreeze in it (more water that antifreeze) so I drained it and left it empty until yesterday when temperatures were above freezing. Filled it up started it and that's what happenedFirst let's talk about why you think you need a new engine.
If it was running just fine before you drained the coolant then I don't expect that the engine has gone bad between you draining it and refilling it. Certainly something is amiss, but it is likely a fairly basic issue related to the drain and refill of the coolant. What is the level of the engine oil looking like? Do you have a mechanic that you can trust? It is making a god awful noise and there is ALOT of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Well about a month before that I had issues with my thermostat and it did get really hot one time but I didn't think it had messed anything up because after it was fixed it started running just fine. See mine didn't squeal it sounded like metal hitting somethingWe just had the same weather here (western side of KY, southern IN). Lows overnight for several nights in a row were below 0°F, and highs for a couple were in the single digits.
I cranked my 2004 3.3L during that weather and it started, but just a minute later I heard a horrific squeal, like a stuck pig, and then the motor quit. I need to see if something froze up or if something got caught in the belts. I sure hope not!
Check its oil level. These little 3.3L V6's take only 3½ quarts for a complete oil change, so if it's low even a little, it's low a lot!See mine didn't squeal it sounded like metal hitting something
All fluids are fine...fan and belts are all moving like it is supposed to...but no I don't not know if the timing belt has been replace or not and the owner before me wouldn't know either. It has like a lil over 270,000 milesCheck its oil level. These little 3.3L V6's take only 3½ quarts for a complete oil change, so if it's low even a little, it's low a lot!
Make sure all of its fluids are filled.
Check the radiator fan to see if it turns normally or if it's wobbling.
Check all of its fan belts.
Do you know how many miles it has been since the timing belt was replaced? The service interval is 7 years / 105,ooo miles.
If you are able to locate the source of this sound, we should be able to narrow things down such that you will have a possible resolution that doesn't require a new engine.See mine didn't squeal it sounded like metal hitting something
This is what we used to use in upstate New York during our long frigid winters. It's best to preheat the coolant and not heat the engine oil because the heaters burn the oil.Al

they also said their antifreeze concentration was “more water than antifreeze”If it was running just fine before you drained the coolant then I don't expect that the engine has gone bad between you draining it and refilling it
I expect you could be right about the water that didn't get out! Darn shame. Have to wonder about the water pump sounding like an ice crusher when the impeller got to spinning.they also said their antifreeze concentration was “more water than antifreeze”
The block probably froze and cracked with residual water. Draining doesn’t get it all
I think the labor time for a long engine is 24 hours. At $100 per hour plus fluids and gaskets, it’ll be at least $4000 to put an engine in this car that has “a lil over 270,000 miles”
so sad because i hate to see these things die
It sounds like it is coming from about middle ways, kinda from the bottom on the passenger side.If you are able to locate the source of this sound, we should be able to narrow things down such that you will have a possible resolution that doesn't require a new engine.
