I set out recently to replace the water pump in my 2001 Xterra. After replacing the pump I got the engine back together and started it up to find that 1) I didn't fix the leak that had prompted me to change the water pump and 2) A loud chirping squeal that wasn't there before has started to happen. So we decided to start by fixing the leak, we replaced all suspect hoses, and redid all of the gaskets. Now it appears that the leak has been repaired but the squeal remains. Its a loud high pitched chirping sound, a lot like that a belt makes when it slips. But here's the mystery, the squeal remains when all of the accessory belts have been removed. I have listened to some of the clips of the timing belt squeal, but it doesn't sound anything like that. I plan on trying to check the tension on the timing belt again tomorrow, just for good measure. So far we're a bit puzzled, any suggestions? Here's a video of the sound. It sounds a bit more like a chirping squeal than it does on the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ6wuwy5vQo&feature=youtu.be
