So we bought an 2001 Xterra SC for my son who is 13. It has 115K on the clock and is running very badly. Oil light is on, valve rattle and engine shaking terribly.
Anyway, we have decided to pull the engine and rebuild since I do not know the damage this Xterra has seen. Also, we have the time since he can't drive it for 1.5 years anyway.

So on to the question. I intend to relocate the knock sensor, buy a new OEM dizzy and a few other common problems and maintenance items while we have it out. The question is can I use the VG33E pistons in the VG33ER motor? I know it will raise the compression, but has this been completed without any issues? More than likely I could but the VG33E rebuild kits and reuse my VG33ER pistons if they are in ok shape. Also, any other must do items while I have the motor out? I want my son to drive this for a while after it alive.
