I have a 2000 xterra. 260k miles. Always has run strong. (plugs wires cap rotor 2yrs old, timing belt 3yrs, fuel injector in cyl1 I had traced down threw fuel trim caused misfire) Yesterday leave work it starts with rough idle and check engine light, less than a mile down the road it starts with blinking check engine light. Very rough idle and ride. Make the 40 mile drive home safe.
Autozone pulls p302 p325. Got spark plug to replace later when engine is cool for cylinder 2. Filled up with gas and before I leave the parking lot the rough idle quits, no shake, no noise, purrs quieter than when there is no problems. I thought it had stalled. Still felt a slight misfire in vibration through the petal. It had started back up shortly after.
Drove to work today. Loss of power especially uphill or during acceleration. I changed the spark plug during lunch. It looked fine, a bit worn but fine. Rough ride the whole way home.
I don't have a tester to watch the fuel trim or a diagnostic reader. Just a hand full of tools and a strong need, as this is my only ride
I can't do any real car work til the weekend. I am thinking that if I remove the distributor cap and rotor, I can squeeze my hand with a mini ratcheted bit driver under the intake plenum and swap out the injector in cyl 2 and hope that fixes it. Hope it last that long. Please help. Any suggestions are welcome.
p. s. I need this fixed asap but I don't have the time or the money to take it to a shop. I am a single parent
