I'm a little past due to do the timing belt change on my '04 V6. I have some experience with a wrench but am unsure if this is a job I should tackle on my own. I have read through the DIY for the change and it looks pretty straight forward. Is ht e write up a good representation of how the process goes? I have access to the work space and all the tools I would need via my FIL. Would the step by step manuals like Chilton or Hayes be a good reference for this job?

I plan to buy the t-belt kit from Courtesy Parts. I am also planning to change radiator hoses, plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Is there anything else I should replace while I am under the hood?

I have spent hours and hours on this forum reading old posts and find it to be most helpful.

Thanks again.

change the water pump while you're in there. this is a doable job on your own, but expect it to take 7-8hrs if you have never done it before. get an extra set of hands if possible.

the 1st one I did was my own, with a friend who is very mechanical, but never changed the t-belt on a Nissan - took us almost 8hrs. The 2nd one I 'helped' someone & ended up doing most of it myself - took 'us' 6hrs. The 3rd one I had an equal amount of help & we were done in 4hrs.

The guy who is helping me does all his vehicle maintenance with a Visa so he is limited in know how. I have done a fair amount of the less complex things like manual transmission swap, clutch work, water pump replacement, and regular maintenance. Is this going to be something we should pass on to a mechanic?
