So I want to lift my 2004 Xterra with 4x4 3 inches. I am ok with cars but I have never done a lift kit on anything so I have no idea what I need to do it. Could someone link everything I will need to but to do this. Also will lifting my truck have any negative effects? I have heard some people say highway driving i s hard. 3 inches should not be that tough on the highway right?

You best bet would be to do a 2" body lift then get 1.5" lift shackles for the rear and adjust the front torsion bars for a 1"-1.5" lift.

Not that I've noticed. You will need the front end aligned afterwards but after that it should be fine. I did mine about a year ago and nothing is wearing out.
