New here. I've owned my x since 09. It's a 2001 3.3 2wd 184k. It started stalling out and not wanting to stay running so we changed the fuel pump, filter and strainer. We still haven't gotten it to stay running. Changed spark plugs and just today the distributor. Still only cranks and doesn't start! In the last couple years have changed the water pump and timing, starter and ignition switch. Please any advice I'm going crazy not having it running! Thanks

I have a no start situation atm and the same truck so I've been doing some research. I might have a few things worth sharing.

I'm not a mechanic but have you verified a spark? You can pull a spark plug out of the head and connect it to the negative terminal of the battery with jumper cables to make it fire while you crank. If its not firing your problem is narrowed down at least.

Is it getting fuel? I see you got a new pump but are the injectors working? I believe my problem is actually with the injectors / ecu.
Try starting your X with starting fluid sprayed directly in the intake. If it starts up, your engine is not getting fuel. Your problem might be something simple, like a blown fuel pump fuse.

Its a process of elimination really, try to cross things off the list. As the say, every engine needs spark, fuel and air. It won't run if one of those are missing.

So with all that you've done as far as throwing parts at it, can we assume that (a) you weren't getting fuel at the rail or injectors? You swapped out the Dizzy and plugs due to NO spark? Just for future reference, if you're getting cranking but a NO Start condition, Diagnosis should be administrated as process of elimination usually in reverse. I.G. A specific No Spark situation; spark > Plugs > Wires > Dizzy > Coil > Engine Management Sensors > ECU connections/ECU > Harnesses and wiring...

Not to be repetitive but have you verified Fuel pressure at the FPR? Fuel at injectors? Do you have spark at the plugs? If not have you checked the coil pack or the coil pickup in the Dizzy? I ask because if you're getting these things now; fuel (?) and spark (?), its a no brainer you likely have air (although a plugged CAT could be a variable.., we need to rule the simple things out before we get deeper.

Before we had replaced the distributor we were able to get it to start but ran really rough. Wouldn't stay running for long at all. When I took it around the block I was getting really crappy acceleration. Once I parked it, it would just crank. So replaced the distributor. Have replaced all the fuses too. Fuel Injectors? Maf?

Okay, well lets see if we can save you some money from just throwing parts at it and guessing shall we?

As it sits now, have you checked to see if you have spark still yet a the plugs? If not I would suggest you either rent/purchase a cheap spark plug indicator or go old fashioned and stick a mid length # 2 Philips screwdriver into the plug wire off # 1 plug and "WITHOUT" touching the metal of the screwdriver, but the rubber wire itself lean it near the most close bolt head abut a 1/4" or so that is grounded well. Have a buddy or the better-half give it a crank or two and see if you get any spark. Pay attention to the color and intensity. Its a strong blue spark we are looking for not a Orange or weak spark.

That information is key right now.
