Since my head swap the car has only been let to idle while I've chased down a couple of bugs. At idle everything sounds fine now, but when I finally gave the engine a little gas I get a loud "single-source" tapping (not from multiple sources such as valve clatter) under the ps valve cover.

I have no valve noise on cold starts, but this tap will occur when the engine is cold or hot and will always disappear after 5-10 minutes at idle.

Thoughts?

Well, I'm guessing a lifter is sticking a little. Maybe some dirt or build up in there. I have had good luck once before with a single ticking lifter throwing in a quart of Rislone. I would give that a try or some other engine cleaner that removes sludge and varnish.

I've never used Rislone. Can't hurt to try (I hope). I've always had classic car projects and stayed away from cleaners because they caused leaks by stripping gunk off of old seals. Turns out sometimes the gunk IS the seal.
