Hey all, just picked up a 2004 Xterra 4x4 3.3 NA. 101k miles (101,500 now) drove it 300 miles home.

Today changed oil and filter, and air filter. Mobil 1, oem Nissan filters.

Also sprayed MAF cleaner on the maf, and sprayed throttle body cleaner on the throttle body, wiping it and the gunk off with a rag. Pretty sparing application of both, CRC brand. I manually operated the throttle and plate while cleaning.

Idle is now 1k rpm, noticeably higher than it was. If given a rev, rpm catches at 1500 for an instant on the way back down, then back to 1000.

Did I mess up a sensor? I drove a few miles, let it idle for a while, no difference. My lincoln took a while to relearn after I cleaned its MAF/TB, but it did relearn.

Thanks for the quick reply, this is a good forum. I was nervous to adjust that, but I guess I could keep track of how many turns I change it and always go back if I need to. Thanks again, will update.

Update - fixed

Today recleaned the TB more thoroughly and did the MAF again too. Then set about to adjust idle using the above instructions. There is a 90° arm with a screw through it running a cam on the throttle stop, which cams as a piston pushes out of the TB onto the screw, thus limiting the throttle closed position. (I believe this is run off of the IACV) My 90° elbow was about 105°, and just looked wrong. Long offset pliers, bent it back to 90°, idle settled down to 775rpm.

I used the above adjustment and fine tuned warm idle to about 725rpm, and she purrs like a kitten now.

All associated running problems have been cured (clunk into gear, accelerate while coasting, clunk when applying throttle from a coast, burnout on ice while idling with foot on brake).
