1st off why are you changing the engine and 2nd what are your goals for engine replacement? when you change an engine you have to disclose mileage on engine and odometer is different and it lowers the value, though many people will jump all over an older truck with a new or properly rebuilt motor in it for a good price. but thats the thing getting a good engine put in isnt easy, unless you hjave the money and get someone that knows what it takes to change a entire engine the end results usually are subpar at best and costly and headache and could possibly leave you out $1000s with a non working or a vehicle with electrical or other gremlins at worst. the 1st gens are worth so little due to their age most any good engine you find for yours is most likely going to cost more than the truck is worth, before you even factor in labor to swap.

If the 5.6 fits i would do that honestly, the 3.3 is a very old design as many parts are getting harder to come by some even discontinued the 5.6 is more modern and obviously a ton more powerful

Ok. Appreciate it.
I'd like to know where you are sourcing the engine (vk56) and how the swap goes. I have around 265k miles with 3.3L supercharger. SC requires replacement every 75 - 85k miles and is costly! I'm original owner and want to keep the vehicle, but there are so many issues popping up now.... so good luck and please let me know how it goes!

LS swap of course...
I’m not certain about the VK having an issue but an LS, 4BT, and almost any other engine you are going to try for a swap just plan on doing SAS at the same time. The front diff is so tight that the all the more common swap choices necessitate removing the IFS front driveline and changing to a live front axle to gain clearance for the oil pans of the donor engines. Take a good look at that ridiculously over complicated oil pan on the VG Nissan didn’t do it for kicks they had no choice in order to make the engine fit.

hm, on a 4wd i would assume right? the 2wd vg xterras have tons of room underneath, that was actually one of many reasons i got my 2nd gen i needed a powerful, decent sized vehicle and need it easy to work on in what litttle free time i have in the driveway
