Hello all,
New to this forum and new to Xterra. I just bought my first Nissan Xterra last week, it's an 05 with 60k miles and in need of a few repairs.
I'm writing though because I think this car is haunted. The other day, my girlfriend and I stepped out of my car, took a few steps away, and the car suddenly started... I have asked the dealership, they said the previous owners never said anything about a remote starter, and I immediately searched under the dash and in the engine compartment to find some sort of remote starter hidden somewhere.
In case it helps, here's the blow-by-blow of what occurred. My girlfriend was driving, we parked and she unlocked the doors from the driver's side panel. We both stepped out, I locked the door from the passenger panel and we both closed our doors. She then also locked the car, turning the key in the driver's door twice towards lock. I then said, "I think it's definitely locked" and pulled on the front passenger's handle twice. We both walked about two steps away from the car when it suddenly started.
I was immediately confused and concerned, so I unlocked the car and asked her to try putting the car in gear and driving, since the seat was at her settings and I wouldn't fit. She sat in the seat, put her foot on the brake pedal, and the car turned off. We've tried recreating all the same steps and have not gotten the same effect since.
Has anyone else had any issues like this, or does anyone know if there is some sort of funky combination of pushing, pulling, and poking things that would allow the engine to turn over without a key or passenger?
