I am not sure where this smell is coming from but everytime I drive about over an hour in stop and go traffic I can smell clutch or hot tranny fluid, I drive an 07 Xterra automatic. I have no issues when I am driving on the highway for extended periods of time. I am trying to figure out what by best approach would be to figure out what is happening.

BTW I have only 47k mi on the truck.

Hmmm, I would consider those too be two different smells...

A clutch smell would imply you might have a manual transmission, albeit you state you have a an automagical tranny....so lets go with the other smell.

:D

Have you checked your fluids, say the brakes, the tranny, etc?

If you sniff the stick or fill, they can give off odors that can help diagnose problems.

Are you sure its not the brakes/pads, etc, for example?

At first my first suspicion was the break pads, but after I put it up on a lift they had plenty of wear left and no uneven scraping on either side. Tranny fluid was a decent color. Oil leaning more to the dark side but that will be changed soon.
