Hey Everyone,

So I recently purchased an 02 5spd supercharged xterra, and have taken care of all typical maintenance items on it. But one issue is giving me some problems troubleshooting. When I try to accelerate, there is a serious hesitation and it feels like the car isn't picking up speed at all. I can hear the supercharger whining, but my RPM seems to get stuck at 3,000 and has issues getting above that mark. I can eventually get the car up to highway speeds, but it feels like the car has to work too hard to get there. According to my obd reader, the car is also getting horrible MPG, around the 10MPG range.

The previous owner had an Apexi AFC Neo tuner installed and a tune done to the vehicle, however that seemed to cause issues with the CEL throwing a MAF code for "Mass or Volume Air Flow "A" Circuit Low". It was suggested to me to reset the tune back to factory defaults, once I did that the CEL light was cleared but the hesitation issue persisted. the previous owner also stated that he had a smaller pulley installed, not sure if this could be the cause of my problems or not.

I'm hoping the problem doesn't lie with the supercharger itself...any advice on troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I am having a very similar issue. Mine is an 01 xterra with a non supercharged 3.3L. It will only do this around 2900-3300rpm and does it through all gears. It drastically loses power within this range and any to or speed increase is done very slowly until it leaves that range. I am still able to drive it if I work the gas and O/D switch to make the trans kick down and sometimes by working the gas alone it seems to help the engine get past the problem area a little quicker. BUT if I am on a hill, and my rpm fall within that range, I am lucky to even maintain my speed, typically I lose speed if the transmission does not kick down.

Through a lot of googling and searching on this website what I found out was abso-stinkin-lutely nothing. The closest thing I was able to figure out is that it likely had to do with either the MAF, the TPS, or the distributor. So today I spent a good chunk of my day at the scrap yard digging through wrecked xterras and pathfinders. I count a good maf, a good tps, and a good dist. I installed all three this afternoon and to my delight nothing got worse! Which means I didn't mess anything up with the dizzy. HOWEVER my issue did not go away. So now I am utterly stumped, and all I can think of is to perhaps replace the ECM next.

I am a lost xterra-loving soul in need of a light to show me the way...
