I've scoured these forums, but can't seem to find anything very helpful on this. My 2000 X got away from me last night, found some black ice and the tail end kicked out. I tried to counter, but ended up going sideways into a small tree, denting the middle of my door and and rocker panel. I'd like to replace the door as pulling the dents would still leave the paint damage. Removing the door seems simple enough with just 4 bolts to pull rather than trying to pull the pins from the hinges. My question is on the wiring. I have a hard time believing I'd have to cut my wires and splice them back together, but until I'd actually get into this, I don't really know. Has anyone removed a front drivers door before?

I have never pulled a door off, but...

1) I would think you can disconnect the wires from inside the door ( lock, window, speaker, etc...) and pull the wires out near the hinges.
2) You would have to swap the lock to use your key. There should be 2-4 bolts/nuts that hold it in place. Look at youtube on this one.

The harness is just inside the door pull back the rubber boot on the wires you should see it. I replaced the 2 back, basically the same except the lock. It's a bit to wiggle the wires apart. Draw around the hinges before you unbolt them to help line it up. You can take the bolts out of the truck or door whichever is easier. The lock you'll have to take the inside off the door (window up) and there's a clip that slides out to take the lock out and a plastic clip on the arm to it. Not sure how it is, it's been awhile. I'd try taking the lock out of the old door first, it's junk after all. Take your time and it won't be bad. Get a buddy to help lift it on and off, it would be a lot easier. Good luck with it.
