Okay, so for the last 6mo (maybe) my check engine light has come on, gone off, came back on and so on. EVERY SINGLE TIME I get the code read its always my cat bank 2. I have replaced the back 2 cats, had the code reset, changed the O2 sensor, recently had a tune up (spark plugs changed and fuel injectors cleaned), but the light always comes back on. My X has 185,000 miles on it and my dad says it might be time to look for a new car, but shit I love my X. I just really want to know what the heck is going on and why the check engine light won’t turn off and stay off. Any suggestions would be helpful. TIA!!

hey country Gal, Your X is but a baby still. Easy 375-400K vehicle and even then unless body rot, i'd suggest a rebuild/replacement engine rather than dump your X. Aside from that I have a couple questions.

- When you get the soft code is it only a single code? Are there multiple codes?
- You didnt indicate whether it was a Rich or a lean condition code or the code(s) themselves... ?
- Have you had any of the spark plugs inspected for a lean condition upon changing them?
- Have you had/or performed a complete leak down test to rule out any poor seals or gaskets that would cause a a lean or rich condition.

Okay, so NOW it's raining in north Texas and I was going to get the code scanned and it's off! I don't know what could make it turn off except the fact that it's raining. When it's not raining it comes on, and when it is raining it comes on. I've noticed now that whenever I get a car wash and it cleans the bottom of my car the light turns off and as soon as it's dry it turns back on. WTF? I don't understand what's going on.

If it's that intermittent, I would check the wires that go to your O2 sensors. Maybe the insulation on the wire is exposed somewhere.
Agreed... You may have a damaged clip allowing a sub harness to be close to a heat source or maybe even tension on it that through vibration rubs against a metal edge grounding out a sensor. Maybe the water being shot from under disturbs that connection in someway until it settles back to that position again.

Do let us know what comes of this
