I believe my spring is broken in my t-handle in the gear shifter. I can move my gear shifter freeley without having to place my foot on the brake. Any one know if I need to replace the entire mechanism? I have it pulled apart and manually pulled on the releaes cable to get my key out of the ignition. Thanks, Sean
it sounds like you should only have to replace the spring that is broken, but i have a manual so i am not 100% sure. there's a few mechanics on the board who might have a better idea. below is a link to the part diagram for the entire shifter assembly, but i can't find a part number for just the spring. if no one else has any input, i would check with a service tech at a dealer and see if the parts guy can't get you a new spring, since you obviously know how to take the whole assembly apart and should be able to replace the part yourself. hopefully james (soccerbrace) will chime in soon, he's probably got the most know-how on this
The button does have a spring to it, however it doesn't move the rod at the bottom? I'm actually a little confused on how to take it all apart. Any thoughts.
