First time posting here. I have a 2005, 4wd, automatic. The Service Engine Soon light came on and a quick check by a Nissan service center indicated a "code 4" which indicates that the issue is with the fuel level sensor. Does anyone have experience with this type of issue with the 05's? Could it be simply that I need a new gas cap? What else could be the problem? I plan to take the vehicle to be serviced in a few days, but I'd like to educate myself first so I can have an intelligent discussion with the Nissan service guys once I get there! Thanks.

Cyclemut is our "in-house" Nissan tech. Dezurtrat is another that can probably help. They will check it out for ya and let you know what needs to be done and you might even be able to do it yourself and save some cash. We have a lot of members here willing to help so just give us a little bit and we'll have some answers for ya.

Sorry I can't help but I have a 1st gen X and I'm not familiar with the 2nd gens.

Welcome to CX! btw :wink-big:

Head over to the "New Member's" section and introduce yourself to the gang! :)

Welcome aboard.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "code 4" as far as vehicle diagnostics go. They should have given you a PO**** number. If you can get the PO number we might be able to help you.
A check over at thenewx reveals that unfortunately the fuel level sensor appears to be a fairly common issue. It involves dropping the fuel tamnk and replacing the sensor. I am not sure if it can be just the sensor alone or if the sensor and pump are one unit.

Yep, there's no 'code 4'. It'd be a PO**** which would narrow it down greatly.

But yes, you do have a fairly common issue in that the fuel level sensor will more than likely need to be replaced. It could either be a failure of the unit, a hose that's in the way or has shifted inside the tank, a temp sensor inside the tank (that's attatched to the sender) and so forth.

I'd take it in to the dealer, if it's still under warranty, and have them take care of it. Well, if I were you, I'd then take it in. If it were my rig, I'd cut off the front end and say to hell with the lights. :D

I have a 2005 also and one week after servicing the Service soon lights came on. The service center said that the fuel sender is bad. But my guage reads proper. I also filled the tank and am monitoring milage. My full tank gives me 300 miles. I am not going to get the problem fixed because it is 250 $ cost.
