What are you guys doing for hooks to remove the engine? Did your engines come with the "slingers" (hooks)? Neither of my Xterras have them. The dealer doesn't sell them anymore, and all online references show the part discontinued.

Some people appear to be using an AC compressor mounting bracket on the driver side (front) and an exhaust manifold bolt on the passenger side (??) to connect the chains to. I was originally planning to pull the motor WITHOUT removing the manifolds or the catalytic convertors, so I wasn't planning to get into the nasty PB Blaster soaking process over several days to break loose all the exhaust bolts (without breaking them).

Is there a way to get the slinger still? If so, do you have to remove the front and rear timing covers to get to the mount on the passenger side head to install the slinger?

Thanks!!

Ok, there has to be a better way to do this. Is it possible that Nissan completely messed this one up? How in the heck does one easily remove these engines with a hoist? I know there must be method to the madness. The JDM engine recylers are pulling them out with the manifolds and cooling fan still attached, so there must be a way to do it without removing the plenum and the exhaust manifolds to gain access to bolts that are strong enough.

Anyone???
