New to this forum and buying my first Xterra tomorrow.

Everything on the car checks out except for the distributor. Sounds more like a wood chipper than a distributor. Normally I stick with trusted brands like Hitachi or Denso, but OMG they are expensive. Anyone had any luck with other brands? I've seen some bad reviews on the cheap ones.

Thanks all!

I bought a beck arnley and the electrics messed up after a couple months, so since I still had my Nissan one i swapped the working electronics from it into the beck arnley body.

If I were to do it again I'd buy OEM althought theyre probably all made in mexico by now..

I have the autozone brand : duralast gold, in my truck for about 4k miles for 6 months. so far so good but damn theres alot of bad reviews about them but who knows maybe when they are bad, people come to the internet to bitch about it. However, when it's good no one says anything and moves on with life.

you need the original to match up and cross reference. There are several revisions and some aftermarket claim to be universal but are not. Take the oem out, check the numbers on the side of the casing and use those when looking for a new one.

I also run the AZ one. It's been great and my truck has been underwater more then once with it.
I keep a spare with my trail spares as I've had issues with zone items but so far so good it's been on for 1 year and over 20k
(And I've replaced distributors in other xterras with the Autozone "universal" and had no issues) I'm not sure this whole part number thing is that big of a deal

Thanks for the info everyone. I thought I posted a response here yesterday, but I don't see it anywhere on the thread. Weird.

Anyway, I ordered a cheap one on amazon with the expectation that it will need to be replaced within a year. That should buy me enough time to either rebuild the factory one or track down an affordable nice one.
